Housing & Community Development
At Reinvestment Partners, community development means bringing community members together to generate thoughtful solutions to common problems, thereby fostering stronger and more resilient communities.
Whether we’re rehabbing distressed residential and commercial properties or encouraging smaller neighborhood improvements, you’ll find us partnering with local government, small businesses, and other nonprofits to build places you want to be.
Our Trusted Process
Commercial
Reinvestment Partners has invested in commercial properties to provide spaces for small businesses and nonprofits.
Along East Geer Street in Durham, we’ve built a community dedicated to health and healthy food. In 2002, Reinvestment Partners purchased and renovated a vacant building, which we turned into our headquarters. We continued investing in properties along E. Geer Street.
The Bull City Cool Food Hub was built with a vision to strengthen Durham’s local food ecosystem by providing space and connections that benefit local farmers, food businesses and hunger-relief nonprofits. The nonprofit Farmer Foodshare uses the space as it works toward the realization of that vision.
Our 1201 N. Roxboro property was vacant and the site of more than 500 9-1-1 calls per year when we purchased it. After extensive renovation, it is now home to a nonprofit providing peer counseling for individuals.
Multifamily
Recently, Reinvestment Partners has invested in multifamily properties to preserve, improve, and create affordable rental housing in Durham. We have purchased and renovated four properties. Our latest multifamily project was the conversion of an extended stay hotel into 72 affordable studio rentals.
Historic
Reinvestment Partners purchased the historic Harriet Tubman YWCA in September 2019. Built in 1953, the Harriet Tubman YWCA is an important building in Durham's African American history because of its role in the Civil Rights Movement. The building has been vacant and inactive for 20 years. We are renovating the property to preserve the building’s history, stabilize the neighborhood, and provide affordable housing.
