Senior Staff Accountant

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reinvestment Partners is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to join our team in Durham, NC. The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.  This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

Reinvestment Partners is a nonprofit agency based in Durham, North Carolina, with a mission to foster healthy and just communities by empowering people, improving places, and influencing policy. We address the problems of poverty and social injustice in the areas of food, housing, community development, health, and financial services. 

The Senior Staff Accountant is a full-time position located in Durham, North Carolina. Full-time salary range is $65,000 - $80,000 annually and benefits include health, dental, vision, and retirement.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
----------------------------------------------------------

  • Provides accurate and timely completion of accounting operations, including all day-to-day tasks (bill payment, payroll, processing incoming funds, invoicing, etc.) as well as the monthly accounting tasks, including month-end close process and financial statement preparation on an accrual basis according to GAAP.
  • Prepares internal monthly financial reports for management and external financial reports for Board of Directors. 
  • Creates and maintains all accounting schedules, including depreciation, deferred revenue, and restricted grants.
  • Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
  • Assists with annual audit preparation and prepares annual 990 with the support of an accounting firm.
  • Manages bookkeeper, outsourced accounting relationships, and any other staff who support with day-to-day accounting operations.
  • Performs variance analyses and prepares account reconciliations.
  • Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data.
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Responsible for all accounting and finance-related technology and tools, including QuickBooks Online, Expensify, and any other related technology tools.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Other accounting duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly skilled in math, accounting and financial processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
  • Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software, including QuickBooks Online
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
----------------------------------------------------------

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting/finance
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities under different legal umbrellas
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
