Junior Staff Accountant

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reinvestment Partners is seeking a Junior Staff Accountant to join our team in Durham, NC. The Junior Staff Accountant is responsible for creating and/or capturing invoices in financial software, posting payments, drafting program-specific financial reports and statements, performing general account reconciliations, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned. The Junior Staff Accountant reports to the Senior Staff Accountant (SSA).

Reinvestment Partners is a nonprofit agency based in Durham, North Carolina, with a mission to foster healthy and just communities by empowering people, improving places, and influencing policy. We address the problems of poverty and social injustice in the areas of food, housing, community development, health, and financial services.

The Junior Staff Accountant can be a part-time or full-time position located in Durham, North Carolina. Full-time salary range is $50,000 - $65,000 annually and benefits include health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
----------------------------------------------------------

  • Provide accurate and timely completion of day-to-day, monthly, and ad hoc accounting operations
  • Assist with various ad hoc financial reports for assigned projects and grants.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including but not limited to, reviewing and analyzing income statement and balance sheet accounts
  • Perform daily cash management activities, recording both online banking transactions and manual cash receipt deposits
  • Prepare monthly bank and account reconciliations
  • Assist with budget and forecast activities
  • Input journal entries and cost allocations
  • Other accounting duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
----------------------------------------------------------

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly skilled in math, accounting, and financial processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
  • Proficient in accounting and software - QuickBooks Online, a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Interest in being part of a collaborative/team accounting department
  • Must live in the Durham area (in-office work required)

QUALIFICATIONS
----------------------------------------------------------

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in accounting, finance, or business administration
  • Minimum of one year experience in an accounting related role
  • Experience with maintaining accounts receivable - invoicing, collections, bookkeeping, etc
  • Experience working/volunteering in non-profit environment
  • Experience with financial reporting
